God
the Father is always at work. He did not just
create the world and then leave it alone to run
all by itself. Because of his love for us He wants
us to have the privilege of working with Him.
The best example of how to do this is to look
at how Jesus did it, because Jesus perfectly fulfilled
every assignment that God gave Him. He never failed
to do His Father’s will. Look at John 5:17,19-20,
where the Jewish leaders were harassing Jesus
for breaking their rules by working on the Sabbath.
Jesus replied to them:
My Father never stops
working, so why should I? I assure you, the
Son can do nothing by himself. He does only
what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the
Father does, the Son also does. For the Father
loves the Son and tells him everything he is
doing.
| What we learn
from Jesus Example |
God the Father works every day.
Jesus works every day.
Jesus does nothing on His own initiative.
Jesus watches to see what the Father
is doing, and then Jesus also does it.
The Father loves Jesus.
The Father tells Jesus everything that
He is doing.
| Now let us apply
this passage to you and me. |
God is at work all around us.
God invites you and me to work with
him.
God reveals to you and me what He is
doing.
We watch to see what the Father is doing,
and we do the same thing.
We realize we can do nothing by ourselves.
With the Father at work in us, we can
do anything.
Because Jesus was dependent on the Father,
then you and I are even more dependent
on the Father.
Once you have a close loving relationship
with God, He will show you what He is
doing. Your job is to follow Jesus’
example
Do what the Father is doing - Watch
to see where God is at work and join
Him.
Focus your attention on what God is
doing, and not on your personal desires,
personal skills, abilities, or resources.
Just go where God is working and join
Him.
| A prayer
to join in God's Work |
Dear
God, I know You are always at work around
me. Thank You for working through ordinary
people like me. I want to take part and
I ask that you invite me to join You in
Your work. Show me your assignment for me.
I wait for You to take the initiative, as
I abide in you. I know You will work through
me to accomplish Your perfect will. I pray
this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
