God is working in you,
Giving you the desire to obey Him, and the power
to do what pleases Him. - Philippians
2:13
God calls you to be involved with Him in His
work. Just like a master does not consult the
servant before he begins his work, God starts
His work long before He consults with us. We
will not respond to this as long as we continue
to be self-centered. Our focus must be on God’s
purposes, not on our own purposes. Only when
this happens, God can do His work through us.
How do you do this?
Sincerely seek God’s direction
through prayer. God will speak to you
Study the Bible. The Holy Spirit will
Spend time with other Christians. God
Wait patiently on God until He gives
you His direction...You may have to
wait longer than you want to. God’s
timing is perfect, and He will speak
to you at the right moment.
Surely
the Lord GOD does nothing, unless He reveals His
secret to His servants the Prophets. -
Amos 3:7
The Bible shows
us by example that when God is about to do something,
He lets one or more of His servants know about
it in advance. He invites them to adjust their
lives to Him so He can accomplish His work through
them. God is far more interested in accomplishing
His kingdom purposes than you are. He will move
you into every assignment that He knows you are
ready for. Let God fit you into His plan. The
servant does not tell the master what kind of
assignment he wants. The servant waits on his
master for the assignment. So be patient and wait.
Let God use
the times that you are waiting to mold and shape
your character; to purify your life and make you
into a clean vessel for His service.
Anything God
asks you to do is important, even if by human
standards it does not seem important. God may
want you to do small assignments to prepare you
for bigger ones.
There are times
when God tries to get our attention by revealing
where He is at work...but we do not see it. We
may say to ourselves, “Well, I do not know
if God wants me to get involved here or not. I
better pray about it”. By the time we leave
that situation and pray, the opportunity to join
God may pass us by. Perhaps our heart was not
tender and sensitive enough. If you are going
to join God in His work, you need to be able to
identify the kinds of things God does, so you
will be able to promptly respond to His call.
The solution
to this is found in the Bible, because it tells
us some things that only God can do. When we learn
to identify the things that only God can do, and
we see them happening, then we will know that
is God is at work. That is the moment that we
are to join in.
For example,
God is at work when you see someone coming to
Christ, asking about spiritual matters, coming
to understand spiritual truth, experiencing conviction
of sin, being convinced of the righteousness of
Christ, and being convinced of judgment.
| Things only God
can do.. : |
God draws people to Himself.
God causes people to seek after Him.
God reveals spiritual truth.
God convicts the world of guilt regarding
sin.
God convicts the world of righteousness.
God convicts the world of judgment.
When
you see these things happening, you know it is
God at work. Be ready to come alongside any person
who is experiencing these things. Pray for them
and with them; speak with them; answer their questions;
comfort them; and let God’s love shine through
you. Be ready to make whatever adjustments are
required to join God in what He is doing.
God says
that when He lets His people know what He is about
to do, it is as good as done - He Himself will
bring it to pass. (Isaiah: 14:24-27; 1 Kings 8:56;
Philippians 1:6). When God reveals His work to
you, then is the time He wants you to begin adjusting
to Him and His activity. What God plans is what
He Himself guarantees to complete.
